Around Illasi
All there is to see in Illasi

Let yourself be amazed by the incredible beauty of this fantastic country.

Come and discover what characterizes this place through the landscapes, the historical monuments and the inhabitants who will be able to enchant you with countless stories about the past.

Illasi is a predominantly agricultural town, it is well known for the production of Valpolicella DOC wine, Amarone and Recioto DOC.

Located at the beginning of the first hills of the Lessini Mountains, it enjoys an incredible view.

Rich in history, this country enjoys many characteristic monuments that contain incredible stories.

Among the beauties of the town you cannot miss a visit to the SCALIGERO CASTLE.

This castle was built in the tenth century to protect the village from possible attacks, its structure is medieval.

Located on the hill, people at the time could observe all the surrounding territory.

Originally the castle was surrounded by musìra because of the countless wars they were demolished, today only a small trace remains.

It is not possible to visit the inside but the outside and you can enjoy a breathtaking view ideal for taking pictures.

Another unmissable stop is VILLA POMPEI CARLOTTI.

This villa is located on the street that leads to the main square of the town.

It is thought that the building was built in 1737, but in retalà it was built at two different times as can be seen from the two types of bricks.

Inside there are countless rooms that had different functions, a library and a large park that surrounds the structure.

The structure can be visited.

In addition to these beautiful monuments Illasi boasts of having many churches.

SANT'ANNA CHURCH was built on 24 September 1800.

Today the church is part of the Villa Avrese complex. In the week of July 26, the day of Sant'Anna, a Mass is celebrated, followed by a feast of the whole district of Giara.

It was built after the war, it is part of the complex of Villa Trabucchi, on the hill to the east of the town.

In the apse there is a fresco by Marco Macola representing a scene from the Martyrdom of San Jacopo.

In the bell tower there is a concert of Veronese bells.

Beyond the hill to the east of the town, since 1837, when a cholera epidemic spared Illasi, the vow of thanks made by the inhabitants of the time is respected, and every year, on the second Sunday of May, a procession is carried out that goes up from the town on the hill, to descend to the Sanctuary.

Until a few years ago, the pilgrimage saw a great competition of people, and special litanies dedicated to the Madonna were sung along the way, which today are the memory of only a few elderly.
